Jan Peters

Professor of Intelligent Autonomous Systems, Technical University of Darmstadt; Head of Robot Learning Group, Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems

Jan Peters is a German computer scientist specialising in robot learning, reinforcement learning (RL), and motor control. He is Professor of Intelligent Autonomous Systems at TU Darmstadt and leads the Robot Learning Group at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Peters’ research combines machine learning with robotics, focusing on how intelligent agents can acquire motor skills through trial and error, imitation, and optimisation. He has been recognised with numerous awards, including the IEEE Robotics & Automation Early Career Award, and has published extensively on reinforcement learning for continuous control, policy gradient methods, and imitation learning.
