Alex Krizhevsky is a computer scientist best known as the lead author of AlexNet, the deep convolutional neural network that decisively won the 2012 ImageNet competition and triggered the modern deep-learning revolution. Working with Geoffrey Hinton and Ilya Sutskever at the University of Toronto, Krizhevsky demonstrated that large neural networks trained on GPUs could dramatically outperform traditional computer-vision methods. After ImageNet, he joined Google Brain, where he continued research on large-scale neural networks, representation learning, and optimisation. Despite maintaining a low public profile, his technical impact on AI is foundational and enduring.
